Zoe takes a spiritual journey
By The Huddersfield Daily Examiner. Sep 8, 2006
Huddersfield actress Zoe Lucker ditches glam for spirituality on the TV
screens next.
Viewers will see her buried up to her neck in sand in a bizarre ritual
to be aired next Tuesday. It's a far cry from her role as superbitch
Tanya Turner in Footballers' Wives, where she made her name as a
cocaine-snorting vixen.
Now Zoe has joined friend and fellow Footballers' Wives actress Sarah
Barrand on a journey to see the Dalai Lama. For Zoe, 32, it was a
personal voyage of thanks after going into counselling when she found it
hard to cope with her fame.
She was aided by the
self-help guide The Art of Happiness: A Handbook for Living, written by
the Dalai Lama with Howard C Cutler, an American psychiatrist.
Zoe says of her visit to the Dalai Lama: "I just wanted to show my
gratitude to him for turning my life round."
Next week's TV programme - the first of two - shows Zoe and Sarah being
put through a series of rituals and tests to develop divine
understanding.
In episode one, the pair receive their first spiritual blessing from a
group of eunuchs as they arrive in India. They paint an elephant and
learn about the equality of all living things. Other activities include
visiting the annual Festival of Holi and witnessing fire walking.
They also psyche themselves up to walk barefoot among 10,000
reincarnated rodents at the Rat Temple of Deshnoke in north-west India.
Finally, the duo are in a group who are present when the Dalai Lama
walks by. It was a moment Zoe will never forget. "It's the first time
I've ever been starstruck," she admits.
* Date with the Dalai is on ITV2 at 9pm on the next two Tuesdays. |
